Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 12, 2026

This policy explains how the Yada app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android (“Yada”, “the app”) handles your information. Yada is made by Brandon Clement (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about anything here, email brandonclement06@icloud.com.

The short version
  • You can use Yada without an account. Your favorites, answer log, photos and settings then stay on your phone.
  • An account is optional. It lets you connect with people, play games together and answer daily questions with a partner. Only the things needed for those features are stored on our servers.
  • What you share with a person — a daily answer, a voice note, a game answer — is visible to that person.
  • We use analytics to understand how the app is used. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • You can delete your account, and the data linked to it, from inside the app at any time.

1. Information stored only on your device

Whether or not you have an account, these stay on your phone and are not sent to us:

  • Your favorite questions and collections, and your answer log.
  • Photos you choose for a relationship (the circle photo on the home screen).
  • Streaks, milestones, theme and other app settings.

Device backups. On iPhone, favorites, collections, your answer log and your profile photo can sync between your own Apple devices through your private iCloud storage, which we cannot access. On Android, the same information may be included in your phone’s Google backup so it can be restored on a new phone; that backup belongs to your Google account and we cannot access it. Voice notes and sign-in details are not included in Android backups.

2. Information stored when you create an account

You can sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. Creating an account stores:

  • Email address — used to sign you in and to let people who already have your address find you. It is never shown to other users.
  • Display name and profile photo (if you add one). Other Yada users can find you by name, by your friend code, or by entering your exact email address. Profile photos are stored at a link that anyone who has the link can open.
  • Friend code — a code others can use to connect with you.

People you connect with

When you add someone, we store the connection, the relationship type (for example Marriage or Friends), the name you give them and any photo you attach. Connections you make while signed out stay on your device until you sign in.

Contacts (optional)

If you choose to look for friends in your contacts, the app reads the email addresses in your contacts and sends them to our server only to check which of them belong to Yada users. We do not store your contacts, and you can use Yada without ever granting access to them.

Daily questions and voice notes

Your answers to daily questions — text and, if you record one, a voice note — are stored so the person you answered with can see them. Voice notes use your microphone only while you are recording. Voice notes are deleted from our servers after 7 days, and they are stored at unguessable links.

Games

When you play a game with someone remotely, your answers, scores and game progress are stored so both players can see them. Love Language quiz results you save can be seen by the partner you share them with. If you rate a game or leave feedback, we store that feedback.

Invites and shared membership

Game invites, connection requests and premium share codes you send or receive are stored so they can be delivered and accepted.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can tell you when it’s your turn, when someone invites you, or when a partner has answered. Some reminders (like streak reminders) are scheduled on your device and never reach our servers.

3. Purchases

Payments are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your card or payment details. We receive and store which plan you bought, when it started and when it ends, so premium can unlock on any device where you sign in to your account. If you share your membership, we store who the membership is shared with.

4. Analytics

We use PostHog, an analytics service based in the United States, to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. It records events such as “question asked” (with its category and depth — never the question you answered or anything you wrote), journeys and games started or finished, themes chosen, paywall views and purchases. Events are linked to a random identifier for your device and, if you are signed in, to your account ID. Like most analytics tools, PostHog receives basic device information (such as device model, operating system and app version) and may estimate your country or city from your IP address.

We do not use analytics for advertising, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell analytics data.

If your phone is set to share crash reports with Apple or Google, they may share anonymous crash information with us.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only:

  • With the people you choose — connections, game partners and daily-question partners see what you share with them.
  • With service providers that run parts of Yada for us, under their own privacy and security terms: Supabase (account, database and file storage), PostHog (analytics), Apple (sign in, App Store purchases, iCloud, notifications), and Google (sign in, Google Play purchases, backups, notifications).
  • When required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.

6. How long we keep information

  • Account information is kept until you delete your account.
  • Voice notes are deleted after 7 days.
  • Subscription records may be kept longer where needed for accounting, tax or legal reasons.
  • Information stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app (or when you clear it from your iCloud or Google backup).

7. Deleting your data and your choices

  • Delete your account in the app: tap your photo at the top right, tap your name at the top of the menu, then Delete Account. This removes your profile, connections, daily answers and voice notes, game data, Love Language results, feedback, invites and notification tokens from our servers.
  • Without an account, deleting the app removes everything it stored on your phone.
  • You can turn off notifications, microphone, photo and contacts access at any time in your phone’s settings.
  • You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information, or ask any question about it, by emailing brandonclement06@icloud.com. We’ll respond within 30 days.

8. Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our database only lets each user read and change their own records, plus the specific records others have chosen to share with them. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and fix problems quickly.

9. Children

Yada includes question packs for parents to use with their kids, but accounts are intended for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Your rights where you live

Depending on where you live — including California (CCPA/CPRA) and the European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR) — you may have the right to know what information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct or delete it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We process account information to provide the features you ask for, and analytics based on our legitimate interest in improving the app. We do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in California law. To use any of these rights, email us.

Our servers and service providers are located in the United States, so your information may be processed outside your country.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll let you know in the app.
